English

At King Edward’s the English department seeks to inspire pupils to read with pleasure and understanding, become sensitive listeners and fluent, articulate speakers, to write carefully and accurately and to appreciate the power of language and use it effectively.  Through the study of literature, pupils explore the world in which they live through discussion, debate and drama.

There is further opportunity to extend their English curriculum lessons through the Debating Club, theatre visits and Drama Club.

IGCSE

All pupils sit the Cambridge IGCSE English Language and Literature courses. Formal classroom learning is enriched and extended with author visits, theatre trips, and writing competitions.

Sixth Form

Pupils can study A-level English Literature.
