Bushcraft is offered at King Edward`s as part of the co-curricular programme
bushcraft_1-2

Utilising our extensive grounds and woodland, bushcraft gives young people a unique opportunity to interact with the environment around them and to re-learn long forgotten skills, all under the guidance of experienced staff, including our very own Bear Grylls!

As part of the programme youngsters are taught about tree identification and their different uses from a commercial point of view. They can see for themselves the many differing kinds of funghi and learn about their effects on trees and those that are edible or have other uses.

The activities we offer include shelter building, plant identification and the ever popular fire-lighting techniques workshop. This offers the opportunity to learn about the differing natural fire lighting materials, to demonstrate various methods of fire construction and management and to look at the variety of ways of creating a spark or flame to start a fire.

We can also demonstrate how to cook over an open fire and the pupils always enjoy toasting their own marshmallows.
