Raising environmental concerns and aiming to improve environmental sustainability at King Edward's
scraphead_challenge_web

The Gaia group is the School’s environmental group, aiming to help improve environmental sustainability at King Edward’s.

This group regularly runs chapel services, aiming to inform pupils about serious environmental concerns. They also organise events such as “Lights Out Day” (to raise consciousness of the power that is used in our day-to-day lives) and the “Scrap Heap Challenge”, an event where pupils make fashion collections, art work, windmills, rafts and buggies out of scrap materials. In this way, they have a fun activity that costs nothing and tests their creativity.

The Gaia group also encourages recycling and reuse of materials. They have been instrumental in ensuring that each house is sorting their rubbish appropriately and setting up life-long habits in the pupils. They also organise the collection of clothes that are no longer needed, to be reused (sold to charity) or recycled (also for charity). The group is also involved in raising environmental concerns with the School administration and aims to help promote the environmental sustainability of King Edward’s.
