The community beyond the School
bushcraft_1

The Outreach Programme at King Edward's has been developed to offer pupils opportunities to participate in a variety of activities within the community.

This has included ongoing weekly Latin and German Clubs offered in local junior schools, one off workshops offering Art, Shooting, Bushcraft, Orienteering and Climbing facilitated at King Edward's and Sixth Form pupils supporting teachers within the local junior schools with themed events, such as International Week. Pupils have led workshops under teacher supervision, acted as teaching assistants within classes and supported King Edward's teachers leading activities.

The Outreach Programme offers pupils the opportunity to work with younger children, developing their social and communicative skills to help them gain a sense of independence and grow in confidence. IB pupils can record Outreach hours as Service for the CAS programme and for pupils in Forms One to Five, eligibility for the Bridewell Award.

Our aim is to expand the Outreach programme to include more local schools and services so that King Edward's is considered an integral part of the local community. Pupils who have been involved in the Outreach activities have found it a rewarding experience and many choose to be involved on a long term basis offering their services every week, building trusting relationships with the pupils they are working with.
