The Annual Fund for 2011/12 smashes target!

In 2009 King Edward’s launched its first Annual Giving Fund to raise money for additional bursary support for children who need to come to King Edward’s. These children must have a happy, safe and supportive environment in which to grow and flourish. The Annual Giving Fund helps to provide additional support each year, allowing the School to direct the funds where they are most needed.

Following a successful first year, our second Annual Giving Fund launched in the Autumn Term of 2010 and we received just over £69,000 in donations, smashing our target of £60,000.  Many donations were in the form of standing orders, ensuring that contributions will continue from year to year and help pupils in the future.

We are now coming toward then end of our Third Annual Giving Fund and we are delighted to announce that we have once again exceeded our target of £70,000 with donations already exceeding £75,000. Our chosen project is a new digital router for the Design and Technology Department, which will enable pupils to create really exciting designs for their GCSE and IB projects, straight from the computer. Of course, donations to bursaries are also still absolutely vital and donors are given the choice of whether to contribute towards a bursary, the digital router or allow the School to make the choice.

Last year's nominated project was the creation of a new music technology room to allow pupils to digitally create and record music. With the help of a significant donation from the late Mrs Cavill and Mrs Knapton, through the Countess of Munster Music Trust, the room has been completed and recently opened and it looks fantastic (see picture below). It really will transform how music composition is taught at King Edward's and hopefully inspire many generations of Witleians to create beautiful music!
