Award winning sports grounds

The School has excellent sports facilities, including a large sports hall and indoor swimming pool, as well as a large artificial pitch and some beautiful grass pitches.

Whatever the weather, top quality sports facilities are always available at King Edwards. Our experienced grounds team ensure that there are always great quality surfaces to play on, allowing pupils to fully express their talents.

Last year, the School's astro-turf pitch and our grounds staff were recognised by the Institute of Groundsmanship when they were runners-up for the Best Maintained Artificial Surface in the UK - quite some accolade!

These are just some of the sports facilities on offer:

  • Indoor Sports Hall - Basketball, Cricket Nets, Circuit Training
  • Fitness Suite & weights room
  • 25 metre indoor swimming pool
  • Full sized, flood lit astro turf pitch (for hockey and in the summer, 9 tennis courts)

The House Talent Show has unveiled some real hidden gems!

This term the traditional House Music Competition was replaced with King Edward's very first talent competition. Called KESW's Got Talent!, it gave pupils the opportunity to showcase some real talent in areas outside the realms of the music and drama departments.

The week before the show saw several eagerly anticipated auditions, which took place in the Music Hall. It is fair to say that there was a mixed bag of talent on show, but it was here that Mr Venables, our new Director of Music, and his fellow judges, started to see some real prospects emerge for what would be a bedazzling show in Charter Hall...

See the trailer for King Edward's School, Witley's inaugral talent contest, KESW's Got Talent!

The Adventure Service Challenge Award is a national scheme for young people aged from 8 through to 14+ years
placementphoto-33

It is run along very similar lines to, and is a preparation for, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. It is designed to offer young people a sense of achievement by means of adventure and challenging activities, while at the same time encouraging them to give service to others. As the boys and girls progress through the award they earn a number of certificates and badges to mark their progress.

The different areas the award encompasses are:

  • ADVENTURE
Discovery, exploration, leisure pursuits, attitudes to and skills for life
  • SERVICE
Concern for others, opportunities for helping those in need
  • CHALLENGE
A comprehensive and complete training programme.

Within this framework we are able to recognise and reward the skills developed in the boys and girls afternoon activities programme, many of their contributions around the school both in the class and outside, the areas looked at within the weekly tutorial programme and the time the boys and girls spend helping others.   Practically this means that we have a lot of fun doing a  variety of different things including camping, hiking, first aid, cookery, developing new skills and interests, road safety, orienteering and service to the community,  to name but a few.  The highlight of the year is without a doubt our annual campout weekend where all boys and girls spend two nights in bivvies they make themselves out in the school woods and learn all about woodcraft and camping.

First Aid

A number of St.John Ambulance courses are run at different stages of the year and with different year groups.

These may be part of the tutorial programme, Duke of Edinburgh Award or as an extra activity which pupils can opt for. This produces a significant number of pupils who are capable of providing the first line of support in the event of an accident or injury.
