Unlimited horizons

We believe as much learning takes place outside the classroom as in it, and a vibrant co-curriculum is central to our educational vision.

During the course of the year, all pupils are expected to follow a balanced programme of activities based on the CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) element of the International Baccalaureate and the Duke of Edinburgh Award, undertaken by all Third Form pupils. After lessons, technical centres, playing fields, studios and classrooms buzz with activities from cookery to printing, life saving to learning a minority language, rock climbing to canoeing.

There are workshops in the visual arts and dance, orchestras, bands and jazz groups whilst plays and musical productions involve large numbers of actors and back stage crew.

The importance of sport is recognised for a number of reasons - as a lesson for healthy living, as an opportunity to take part and learn from competition, and as a means in itself for fun and fulfilment.  We aim to provide expertise for all pupils, whether they be highly talented and enthusiastic games players or for those who are less confident on the games field but who still benefit from an active lifestyle.  In addition to the formal fixtures programme there are many other opportunities for recreational sport.  These might be a casual game of squash or tennis played with a friend, a fitness session in the cardio-vascular suite or an aerobics session.  Pupils have the chance to play sport for the School, the House or simply for themselves.

Service projects is another important area of the extra-curricular programme, whether in the local community or in national or international contexts and encourages pupils to share their energies and special talents whilst developing awareness, concern and the ability to work co-operatively with others.

Whatever your sporting, artistic, musical, outdoor or other interests, you will find them catered for. Just bring your talent and enthusiasm and together, we’ll make things happen.
