The Adventure Service Challenge Award is a national scheme for young people aged from 8 through to 14+ years

It is run along very similar lines to, and is a preparation for, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. It is designed to offer young people a sense of achievement by means of adventure and challenging activities, while at the same time encouraging them to give service to others. As the boys and girls progress through the award they earn a number of certificates and badges to mark their progress.

The different areas the award encompasses are:

  • ADVENTURE
Discovery, exploration, leisure pursuits, attitudes to and skills for life
  • SERVICE
Concern for others, opportunities for helping those in need
  • CHALLENGE
A comprehensive and complete training programme.

Within this framework we are able to recognise and reward the skills developed in the boys and girls afternoon activities programme, many of their contributions around the school both in the class and outside, the areas looked at within the weekly tutorial programme and the time the boys and girls spend helping others.   Practically this means that we have a lot of fun doing a  variety of different things including camping, hiking, first aid, cookery, developing new skills and interests, road safety, orienteering and service to the community,  to name but a few.  The highlight of the year is without a doubt our annual campout weekend where all boys and girls spend two nights in bivvies they make themselves out in the school woods and learn all about woodcraft and camping.
