Thousands of pounds raised on an annual basis for charities, at home and abroad

One of the fundamental features of education at King Edward’s is the way young people are encouraged to look beyond their personal needs and find ways to serve their communities.

In order for this to be effective, each term different charities are presented to the School by pupils. These charities can be local, national or international and the pupil body is asked to vote for the cause that they want to support. In this way, there is strong engagement between the pupil body and the charity that is supported.

Following this, the pupils organise different events, such as side stalls at Sports Day, sponsored events, for example the Bridewell Dip, May Day Madness, Band Night, Football Night and bake sales. We also strongly encourage pupils to offer to do jobs for family and friends in exchange for a donation. This is a win/win scheme since funds are raised for a charity while the pupil does something of worth.

This year over £2300 was raised for the Disaster Emergency Committee in response to the Haitian earthquake and over £8000 was raised for the Rob Millington Library in Thailand.
