Duke of Edinburgh
Gold awards galore! Successful gold award pupils meet the Lord Mayor of London at the Mansion House

King Edward’s has a long association with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme with many pupils obtaining the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. The co-curriculum at King Edward’s allows pupils to construct and complete individual D of E programmes at the three levels.
Pupils can begin their adventure aged 14, 15, or 16 with entry to the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels respectively and have until their 25th birthday to complete their chosen level. As such, Third and Fourth Form pupils embark on the Bronze, Fourth and Fifth on the Silver and the Sixth Form on the Gold level. The programmes fit well into the academic year. The programme is organised in four sections:
VOLUNTEERING: making a difference by helping someone, the environment of the community. This can be done through charity committees, conservation, lifesaving etc at King Edward's.
PHYSICAL: Choose any of the sports available at King Edward's, whether team or individual and follow a progressive programme.
SKILLS: Develop your favourite hobby, learn a new skill/craft and gain this award section.
EXPEDITION: At King Edward's, you will be trained by qualified staff to plan and embark on your expedition, enjoying the local countryside or the best of the British mountains as you work in teams to meet the challenge.
RESIDENTIAL (Gold only): Spend time with new friends and make a difference, volunteering, developing or learning within a residential setting such as a summer camp or a tall ship.
