Tennis - boys and girls

However training continues throughout the year, with coaching being provided by teaching staff after school, as well as by a visiting professional coach.

The School has the advantage of an excellent floodlit astroturf surface with 9 courts for use throughout the summer. In addition there are 6 hard courts, which are used during the winter months, together with an indoor court in the Sports Hall, which is used in the evening.

Professional coaching is also available for groups and individuals of all standards, from beginners to tournament players, from Mike Henry, Head Coach at West Surrey Tennis Club, who can be contacted on mikehenry_ws@yahoo.co.uk.

In the Summer term, matches are organised against other schools and in June this year we ran the first Old Witleians competition, based on American tournament rules. This was a most enjoyable day involving pupils, staff and old Wits, and will hopefully become an annual fixture in the calendar.

It has become a tradition that each year there is a trip to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships for those who have represented the school in a tennis team – always the highlight of the term for the pupils [and staff!]..
