Induction Programme
Looking after overseas students and their needs

King Edward’s is a diverse multicultural community, with pupils from more than 30 countries, particularly in the more senior year groups. We help them to settle in and feel welcomed into the King Edward’s way of life. We also celebrate the cultural richness that they bring with them to our community.
Challenges and Celebrations
Mrs Cox and Mr Webster are the School’s international coordinators. They have considerable experience in looking after the many overseas pupils whom we welcome and recognise that these young people will have some common needs and challenges to face. A structured programme of regular meetings allows a smooth entry to School life. The co-ordinators will ensure that each new pupil has a friend to whom they can turn for companionship and advice. The many events in the School calendar will also help pupils to forge relationships, keep them occupied and meet new challenges.
Cultural differences in life style, religion or diet are recognised and indeed celebrated. To help cushion any initial difficulties of homesickness, we ensure that pupils have access to Skype and Facebook to keep in touch with family and friends.
The outcome
Our provision to meet the needs of overseas pupils results in an amazing blend of the community. Everybody, regardless of nationality, religion or ethnic background feels comfortable, involved and is able to both learn effectively and enjoy daily life with each other and with the staff.
