Pupils celebrate German Food Day!
Six pupils recently experienced life in a professional kitchen on German Food Day and treated the school to some great German cuisine.
Their aim was to produce Saturday’s High Tea for staff and pupils, with just under 4 hours on the clock. With the help of Head Chef Mr C. Bicknell, Sous Chef Mr A. Sari, and Mr A. Skau, Theo, Christian, Linus, Maximilian, Niklas and Julian designed the menu, prepared the food and decorated the serving area.
After a short briefing from Mr Hines the boys were kitted out for the job in hats and aprons and fully aware of how a large-scale kitchen should safely operate. Linus and Niklas breaded the Schnitzel and shaped the Frikadellen; Christian and Julian put together the side dishes including Kartoffelsalat and Gurken-Dill Salat; Theo and Maximilian helped to bake the Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, known more commonly to us as Black Forest Gateaux.
They rewarded themselves with an ice-cream break, which was a welcome relief from a kitchen that was almost twice the temperature of outdoors! The food was then heartily enjoyed by many members of the school community, some of whom were pleasantly surprised to discover their delicious food had been made by their fellow students.
Thanks are offered to all those who took part and supported this event, especially those in the Catering Department.
