The six senior boarding houses offer a 'home from home' for pupils; a safe, happy and secure environment in six paired senior houses, Grafton and Queens, Edward and Tudor, Wakefield and Elizabeth.

Each House has a Housemaster or Housemistress in charge of a team of tutors, at least one of whom is resident, and a resident matron. The senior houses are set in leafy grounds and form three sides of an open square that encloses a pond and a heart shaped grass area. Each of the houses has its own separate foyer, bedrooms and bathrooms, but shares recreational rooms with the adjoining house, where boys and girls can mingle in a normal, extended family type of atmosphere. This arrangement is popular with parents, as it allows siblings to live closely together, and also with pupils, as it provides the security of a supervised environment whilst, at the same time, encouraging self discipline and self reliance.

During the evenings all pupils are required to work quietly and independently but with the advantage of having staff on hand who can help with any difficulties that may arise with the work that has been set. Each year group has a Tutor and that person will be available in the boarding house at least one evening a week, to talk on a one to one basis with their tutees and to offer advice on how to maximise that pupil’s academic potential. At the end of each evening, all the pupils have some free time to spend in the shared areas of the houses and to have a snack before bedtime.
