A firm foundation
edward_tudor

The GCSE Curriculum builds firmly on the foundation built in the Lower School and Third Form while preparing for Sixth Form study.

All pupils take English Language or IGCSE English as a Second Language, Mathematics (IGCSE or GCSE), IGCSE Science and a short course in Religious Education.  Most will take English Literature and a Modern Foreign Language (German or French). It is also possible for some to upgrade the Religious Education short course to the full GCSE.

Pupils choose three subjects from the following:
Art, Design Technology, Drama, History, Geography, Latin, a second Foreign Language (French or an accelerated course in Spanish), Classical Civilisation, Music and Physical Education.

In Art, pupils follow the Unendorsed Course which encompasses a range of artistic techniques such as Drawing, Printmaking, Ceramics and Photography; in Design Technology the courses focus on Resistant Materials, Food or Textiles. The option blocks are constructed to meet the choices of individuals, but checks are made to ensure that pupils undertake a balanced programme and do not close educational or career doors.

In the Fifth Form, pupils take a course in Critical Thinking. Throughout the emphasis is not just on teaching to the exam but preparation for the Sixth Form and the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Pupils are taught in ability sets in English, Mathematics, Science, Religious Education and Languages.
