Through the study of inspiring literature pupils will explore and understand the world in which they live through discussion, debate and drama.

Third Form: Development of skills required for GCSE English, analytical writing on literature, War poetry, Shakespeare and Creative Writing. Writing: Formal and informal letter writing, Media analysis of argument and persuasion in a range of printed media and online sources. Reading: The Novel, newspaper articles, poetry, 19th Century fiction, Shakespeare. Speaking and Listening Group discussion, debate, individual report, dramatised reading of own original writing.
GCSE AQA Specification A: The world of texts – Fiction texts – audience and reader, form and genre, Non –fiction texts – purpose, audience and intention, Spoken texts – Style and Register, Reading non fiction, Understanding presentational devices, Arguing and persuading Explaining, Advising and Informing, Poetry – Contemporary and Heritage, Poetry.
IB: English is offered at both Higher and Standard Level. On either course at A1 or A2 levels students can expect to be challenged by an advanced level of the study of classic texts both in world literature in translation and English literature, drama, prose and poetry, completing work on extensive writing, oral presentations on previously unseen material and constructing presentations on issues of global importance.
