The Ballad of Albert O’Dell

Composition by Harry Naylor, 4th Form pupil.

I was inspired to write this song after watching a live band perform a song in the ‘Bluegrass’ style. I have always been interested in high-energy music and I wanted to create something similar with a fast pace and catchy rhythm. My aim with this piece of music was to create something that was fun to play and fun to listen to.

I have been playing guitar since I was at Junior school, and split my current guitar lessons between playing classical and contemporary guitar. In March, I hope to take my Grade 5 classical guitar exam. For contemporary guitar, I have been song-writing for about a year and a half. I often find that the part that comes easiest is the melody and chords but coming up with suitable and meaningful lyrics is more of a challenge.
