Job Description

Teacher of Geography

Part-time

Required September 2023

An outstanding new teacher of Geography is required to deliver a coherent, well-balanced academic, pastoral or co-curricular programme throughout the School for pupils of all abilities.

In the Lower School (years 7 and 8), we offer pupils a wide-ranging introductory course, built around a vertical curriculum equipping pupils with the practical skills and base knowledge for learning at IGCSE and IB/A Level, with an emphasis on the use of GIS, independent investigative skills, to facilitate inquisitive thinking about the world around them.

Geography is a popular option at GCSE, with pupils completing the Cambridge IGCSE course, including coursework in our local area. In the Sixth Form, the subject continues to be very popular, at both IB Geography (Higher and Standard level) and A Level Geography; we follow the Edexcel A Level Course. Both IB and A Level Geographers participate in a residential trip to Slapton Ley Field Study Centre.

The successful candidate will have a deep-rooted passion for Geography and be highly capable in delivering inspiring lessons to pupils at all levels. They should be a forward-thinking practitioner, inspiring to our pupils and be eager to develop their teaching within an established and successful department which is committed to academic excellence.

In return, as well as job satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment, we can offer a competitive salary, staff fee remission on school fees both at King Edward’s and our partner school Barrow Hills, free car parking, free use of our gym, swimming pool and sports facilities, all meals and snacks on duty and a Cycle to Work Scheme. We currently offer membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS), if applicable.  Single or family accommodation may also be available at favourable rents.
