20th Century Art Masterclass

24th September 2021

Today our pupils from all year groups attended a fantastic interactive virtual workshop from the V&A in London, the world’s leading museum of art, design and performance. The workshop focused on 20th Century Art such as Art Deco, Modernism and Postmodernism and was led as part of the V&A’s Virtual Classroom programme.

The workshop was hands on and pupils had the opportunity to complete their very own artwork following guidance from professionals from the V&A itself. As well as this, there was a technical aspect where pupils could understand why they were creating the styles of art shown, the historical significance and the importance of understanding different art styles.

Different historical artefacts from the V&A were shown on screen too, and pupils were encouraged to see the differences between art styles from a range of years. It was a great way for pupils to share their thoughts and opinions and this was heavily encouraged by the V&A.

Previously, the Art Department here at King Edward’s Witley has offered tutorials on subjects such as Sustainable Fashion, offering pupils a different insight into all aspects of the Art industry. A big thank you to Mrs Shouksmith, our Director of Art, for organising this amazing opportunity.
