QMH Day Pupil ExperienceSetting sights high for personal growth

At King Edward’s, we don’t distinguish between day and boarding pupils. The life of a Queen Mary House day pupil is as dynamic and varied as that of a boarder.

Whether arriving at Witley station (just a 5-minute walk from King Edward’s), or directly by minibus or by car, all of our day pupils arrive ready to join their boarding family and friends for breakfast at 7.30am or for morning roll call and 8.20am. A time to connect, catch up and talk about ongoing activities and events, we encourage all pupils to embrace a moment to think ahead and mentally prepare for all that the vibrant school day ahead offers.

Aiming high

We encourage pupils to set their sights high in all things – to be ambitious in their learning and to want to do their very best. Their day is full and productive as we set ourselves rigorous academic targets, focussing on personal growth and reaching beyond their own expectations. We aim to add value as well as knowledge, working to ensure that pupils to flourish academically, socially and emotionally, enjoying a broad range of academic and co-curricular learning, social and enrichment activities and very importantly having great fun and a moment to catch up over a round of hot buttered toast with QMH friends at each morning break.

Stretching boundaries through opportunity

With over 50 clubs and activities available weekly, Year 7 and 8 life is alive with opportunity to push the boundaries of personal achievement, to go further and understand more. It provides a safe environment for pupils to embrace uncertainty, take risks with their learning, develop resilience, find a voice and use it well; to stretch boundaries of understanding and  to discover what excites and fulfils them.

Motivated by learning and friendship, many day pupils choose to extend their time at school each day, staying until early evening to take advantage of learning, co-curricular and social opportunities it provides, and perhaps enjoy a little supper too. Keen to balance the needs of working families and our pupils can be collected up to 9pm each day if required.

Many of our day pupils also take advantage of occasional boarding to fit with busy family schedules or if there are house or co-curricular events or activities which finish late into the evening. Our QMH team is ready and able to accommodate different requirements and ensure that pupils are at home in QMH, whether they live in them seven nights a week or just every now and then.

Home is where the heart is, and whether a day pupil or a boarder, QMH truly is a bustling, dynamic and happy ‘home from home’ for all.
