This term KESW embarked on an exciting adventure by opening up the weekend trips to all pupils. There has been to the beach, an ice disco, Fright night at Thorpe Park, England V Argentina Rugby Match with the term’s trips culminating with the London Lights and Market tour.
The group of 30 started off on the tarmac with a briefing about where we would be visiting and how busy the city is at Christmastime. Once we checked everyone was dressed warmly, the group galivanted toward the train station to catch the 14:20 train ever thankful there was not industrial action on that day. After excited giggles on the train the five groups wandered to our first stop, the Southbank Centre’s food market. Asian food was a popular choice! Once we were full there was a meandering along the river to experience more stalls and for some, lobster rolls. The groups traversed in different directions with some going via the London Eye and Big Ben the whole way up to Hamleys in Regent Street. Others were keen for China town and Oxford Street. Piccadilly circus and Leicester Square were exceptionally busy especially when those celebrating Morocco’s world cup win were showing their excitement. A few groups went to Covent Garden for more lights and shopping before decamping at Foyles which was the most popular shop on the trip. Finally, we met back at Waterloo with the aim of the 20:45 train home. Some pupils exclaimed that they had walked 12KM over the course of the trip and a few realised just how cold it can get in England. With full stomachs and plenty of Christmas shopping we landed back in Witley in great Christmas cheer.
