Friday Feature: Mrs Fiona Fitch

5th May 2023

What is your current position at King Edward's Witley?

Head of Girls’ Games and Head of Hockey.

How long have you worked at King Edward's Witley?

3 years.

Where do you live and where were you born?

I currently live in East Horsley. I was born in Gloucestershire but lived in Germany as a baby until settling in North East Lincolnshire aged 3.

What's your favourite thing about working at King Edward's Witley?

More than one…

1 – My colleagues – not only in the PE department but also across many departments and areas including support staff. Very supportive, make me laugh and always willing to help and listen. In my short time at KESW, I feel I have made some great friendships and good working relationships.
2 – The pupils – The majority of our pupils are gracious, appreciate the efforts the staff put in to help them succeed and are a pleasure to work with.
3 – The facilities and grounds. How can working daily on our astro and pitches be a chore?

What are your hobbies?

Playing hockey for Surbiton hockey club, and now London Masters having just been selected to represent them over the summer.

Reading, movies, family holidays and catching up with family and friends.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I was lucky to own my own horses when I was younger and competed to a high level and so I just presumed I would work with horses, I wanted to rescue them. Then reality struck and I discovered how much money was needed so I went with my back up plan of a PE teacher!

What is the funniest thing a pupil has ever said to you?

More a funny comment I made to a pupil. He was determined to be a professional football player and was in the Fulham academy at the time. He laughed at me when I suggested he could take up hockey or another sport if football didn’t work out. Shortly after this, Matthew made his Fulham debut at the age of 16 and was for some time the youngest premiership footballer on record.

What's your favourite book/movie/song?

Movie – I am a big Star Wars and James Bond fan but a movie I can watch over and over again without getting bored is Top Gun.

Book – The Huntress by Katie Quinn.

Song – Masterplan by Oasis and Something changed by Pulp.
