Head Boy: Nicholas Woodward OW 1985

8th January 2024

Tell us a little bit about your time at King Edwards's?

I was at King Edward’s between 1979 and 1985, firstly in QMH and then in Grafton House.

What are your best memories from school?

I always used to love the hour before a first team football match. I played for the team for a few games in the Fourth Year then from Fifth into the Upper Sixth. The squad would gather in the Edward changing room, kit would be handed out and we would talk through the opposition and tactics before going out to warm up.

I always loved Maths, loved playing football for the school and Grafton, athletics in the summer and all the outdoor activities, which taught me mountaineering skills I use to this day.

What did life after school hold?

After university, where I met my wife, we settled into London and had a family (now grown up and at university). Other than an 18 month spell living in Perth, Western Australia, we still live in North London.

After a few years working in the space industry I became a management consultant, helping clients across many sectors (Government, Aerospace, Transport, Banking, Oil and Gas, Utilities, Media, Retail, Sport) deliver their largest global transformation projects. I retired in 2023.

What have been some of your greatest achievements?

In 1988, with three friends, we became the first team to climb Rugendwara, a mountain in Uganda.

Also, I was very proud to be part of the FA Coaching Team who supported the England Powerchair Football team to win the European Championships in Helsinki in 2019.
