Friday Feature: Ms Blakeman

23rd February 2024

What is your background and where do you live now?

I was born in Islington but grew up in Borehamwood.  We moved to Reading in my teens and I now live in Basingstoke with my family and our dog Smudge.

What are you most looking forward to in your new position?

I am looking forward to getting to know the staff and pupils and making a positive impact on your catering service, food is so emotive, it is a huge part of any experience but for a boarding community it is a vital part of school life and I want to deliver an offer we can all be really proud of.

What is your favourite thing so far about King Edward's Witley?

Everyone is so friendly, I have been made to feel very welcome and I love how beautifully kept the grounds are. A whole lot of work goes into keeping this place looking as good as it does and that shows the dedication of the teams working here.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I love music and roller skating, quads, not blades! I have a beautiful pair of custom made skates that are my pride and joy. There is literally no happier place for me than rolling around in the sunshine and listening to music, I can’t wait for the summer.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

That your value is not measured by the way you look or how much money you earn and that your brain often lies. If it tells you you can’t do something. Take no notice!

Who is someone you have always admired and why?

My Parents, They both worked so hard to raise me and my siblings and create a good life for us, only as I became a parent myself did I truly begin to understand their selflessness.
