The recent Berlin visit by our language, history and art students reminds us how closely art, history, politics, psychology, architecture, sport and society are deeply interwoven.
Visiting the DDR Museum, Berlinische and East Side Gallery, which is the longest standing section of the Berlin wall, the Reichstag building designed by British architect Norman Foster, Stasi prison, and the Olympic Stadium, this was a powerful trip for our pupils learning to understand some world changing moments of the past- and in so doing, their place in the future. 🌍

Shabbat Dinner at Jubilee, our dedicated Upper Sixth Boarding House was a warm expression of togetherness within our international boarding community. With eight cultural backgrounds represented around one table, it became one of those evenings where food, conversation and shared curiosity created something genuinely memorable.
As part of our weekly ‘Friday Foods’ tradition in Jubilee House, students regularly share dishes from their own cultures and backgrounds, and this Shabbat dinner grew naturally from that spirit. Pupils gathered to enjoy freshly baked challah, matzo-ball soup and even the always-divisive pickled herring, accompanied by a little Kiddush wine. With klezmer music playing in the background, the room quickly filled with laughter, questions and stories.
What made the evening so meaningful was the openness pupils showed toward each other’s traditions. They weren’t just trying new dishes, but discovering the rituals, values and family stories that shape one another’s lives. In an Upper Sixth form boarding environment where many live far from home, moments like this offer a genuine sense of belonging.

🌍 Business Meets Languages at KESW!
We were thrilled to host our Business Language Champions event, welcoming teams from nine local schools for a dynamic day of global thinking, creativity and challenge.
Students stepped into the world of international business - pitching products to unfamiliar markets, navigating language barriers, and discovering just how powerful communication can be in the global marketplace.
💬🇪🇸🇩🇪🇫🇷🇨🇳
Working in Spanish, German, French or Mandarin, each team of six took on:
• A fast-paced marketing & selling challenge
• Student-led presentations in their target language
• Creative tasks that showcased innovation and teamwork
• An introduction to real-world marketing techniques
• Conversations with international business professionals
The day highlighted the importance of cultural awareness, collaboration and leadership - skills that will shape the business leaders of tomorrow.

❄️❄️ With young King Edward looking on, a little flurry of snow reminds us that children will always find happiness and human connection in simple moments of surprise, friendship and play.
Let it snow. Let us play.

Earlier in the autumn term, we were delighted to welcome Dr Connar Rowan, from the prestigious Neils Bohr Institute, to King Edward’s to deliver an excellent talk to our young physicists.
Dr Rowan outlined his research into black holes and gravitational waves and, developed ideas through an engaging Q&A with our pupils, as they prepare for university applications.
Part of a broader Bridewell programme of visiting experts, inspiring events such as these are invaluable for expanding minds with refined knowledge that goes beyond the theory, encouraging critical engagement and further igniting a passions for exploration.

👩🏾🔬🕵️♀️ Murder Mystery Science Night 👨🔬🧪
Bringing learning to life, last week 20 pupils from our Lower School (Queen Mary House) took part in a thrilling Murder Mystery Science Night hosted by our brilliant Upper Sixth STEM Ambassadors.
Working in teams, pupils were challenged to solve the mysterious death of a famous scientist by analysing the evidence. They carried out a range of forensic investigations — including fingerprint analysis, chromatography of pen samples, letter analysis, and flame tests of metal compounds found on the suspect’s clothing — before presenting their findings on a poster.
A huge thank you to our STEM Ambassadors for leading such a creative and engaging evening, to our science technicians for preparing and organising the practical activities, and to the teachers who supported the event.
