Mathematics

The Mathematics Department at King Edward’s aims to develop an enthusiasm and solid maths knowledge to ensure all pupils are numerate and thoroughly equipped to handle all aspects of maths. We enhance learning through a variety of enrichment activities, including weekly problem-solving competitions (Junior, Intermediate, Senior) and regular involvement in Mathematics Challenges and Olympiads.

1st Form to 5th Form IGCSE

Maths is a core subject from 1st Form to 5th Form at IGCSE. Pupils are set according to ability from 1st Form. We offer the Edexcel IGCSE in Mathematics and for our most able mathematicians, the challenging Additional Maths course.

Sixth Form

We offer both The International Baccalaureate (IB) and A-level Mathematics.

IB Mathematics: The IB programme is split into Maths Analysis & Approaches or Maths Applications & Interpretations. Both courses can be taken in either Higher Level (HL) or Standard Level (SL). The choice is determined by pupil ability and mathematical requirements for university study.

A-level Maths: A-level Mathematics encompasses Pure Mechanics and Statistics.

A-level Further Maths: We encourage our most promising mathematicians to take Further Maths at A-level, giving them a solid base from which to pursue higher study.

The Department offers support for Advanced Extension Award (AEA) and Oxbridge applications including Sixth Term Examination Papers (STEP) course.
