Feeder School Art Competition

Spring Art Competition – March 2020

The King Edward’s annual Art Competition and Exhibition took place in March 2020. We welcomed entries from eight local prep and primary schools.  Pupils were invited to create and submit up to five pieces of art from each Year groups 5 & 6 and 7 & 8.  In total a mix of 55 either 2D or 3D artworks were received all amazing in their own unique way.

To celebrate the wonderful achievements, families, teachers and friends are invited to an evening Reception consisting of light refreshments.  The guests are able to view the exhibition and then enjoy the excitement of prize giving which is announced live on the night.

Aims

To give the young artists the opportunity to create their own interpretation of a well known artist such as one of Van Gogh, Banksy, Andy Warhol’s piece of work, or to use their own inspiration and imagination following a visit to an art gallery.

Impact

We invite local prep and primary schools to create their own masterpiece under the guidance and tuition of their teachers.

Everyone is able to enjoy looking at all the other entrants’ work in an exhibition.  During this time, the Head of Art announces the lucky prize winners. The visitors learn whether their artwork has been chosen in front of the wider audience.  Four WH Smith vouchers are awarded by the judges for each age category, the awards are given to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and highly commended winners.

Pupil Involvement

This event is only open to guest prep and primary schools and does not include King Edward’s pupils.

Frequency

Once a year in mid-March during the Spring Term.
