Physical Activities

Mrs Pevereall will be running a number of classes for pupils in which they will have an introduction to yoga. Classes will consist of 20-30 minute sessions for a range of levels.

Strava running club

Welcome to the new ‘King Edward’s Witley Running Club’. Pupils can join in by downloading the Strava App and joining the new club. Mr Miller will be recording pupils’ 5km and 10km times and seeing who has the fastest time and who has improved the most. The App records both runs and cycles!

Strava bike club

Similar to the new King Edward’s Witley Runnning Club, pupils will record their cycles through the Strava App. The App will keep a log of pupils’ total distances and longest rides and then generate a Club Leader-board every week.

Pupils can ride off-road if they wish, but they must wear a helmet for all activities, and no earphones. Mr Head will be keeping track of the fastest and the most approved.

Fitness sessions

Mrs Meyer, King Edward’s very own super athlete, will be running fitness sessions for pupils to join in with. The pre-recorded videos will cover core exercises and the live sessions will be whole body workouts.

Table tennis skills

Table tennis is one of the sports which can be adapted to remain active at home during the current situation. For pupils that have been playing table tennis as their regular activity, this is an excellent opportunity to look at basic skills and do some drills and practice at home so they can become an effective player once they can start playing on tables again. A few of the practices even do not need a table.

Indoor mountaineering

For this fitness related activity, pupils will count and record the number of stairs they have climbed according to the following equation: Height of a step x number of steps in a flight of stairs x number of flights climbed. Only the ascent steps will count.

Awards will be given to pupils after they reach a certain height. The awards are as follows:

  • The Ben Nevis Award – 1345m (approx. 450 flights of 3 metre stairs)
  • The Mont Blanc Award – 4808mm (approx. 1600 flights of 3 metre stairs)
  • The Everest Award – 8848mm (approx. 3000 flights of 3 metre stairs)

Live Zoom dance classes

This Dance class will be based around the medium of Jazz and Street Style Dancing. It will cater for keen dancers and pupils who just want to have some fun. The class is designed to improve fitness and flexibility, concentrate on dance technique and release positive endorphins through various dance styles.

Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. This helps to improve general fitness and over all well-being. Pilates concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility and also focuses on the mind-body connection. Mrs Pullen will be leading a group through online videos each week.

Sessions will be 20 minutes long, all pupils will need is themselves, a bit of space, a timer and some motivating music.
